What is the draft?
A
draft is a" sketch " of a 3D model made with the simplest tools. It is
necessary to find shapes and silhouettes — this is the main artistic
stage in 3D modeling. Draft allows you to quickly create and easily edit
any model. For example: techniques, environment objects, characters,
organic forms, abstract forms, and constructors.
Course content
The blocking
At
this stage, we collect the basic shapes and silhouettes from primitives
in 40 minutes using simple tools. We understand the composition and
proportions of the model, making it readable and natural from any angle.
Blocking is an important part of the work, it sets all basic shapes
that are difficult to change in the further work on the model.
Detail
At
this stage, we complicate the silhouette of our model and fill it with
lively details. The goal of detailing is to make the geometry expressive
and interesting: figure out the scale, dilute the symmetry, and add
small stories to the model. A good draft is very similar to the final
model, but we only deal with the artistic side of the 3D model, without
touching the technical requirements.
The final asset
A
ready-made model that meets all technical requirements. On each project,
a unique combination of technologies, therefore different requirements
to the final models: for big AAA games need a low poly and midpoly for
30-100k triangles with a normal map and physically correct textures for
cartoons usually do SubD hipoly, but in the movie, and visualization are
increasingly making MidPoly geometry. We will talk about this a bit on
the course.
